A closet isn’t always the first place that comes to mind when decorating your house, but it’s one of my favorite spaces to personalize! With just a few easy changes, you can turn a basic closet into a luxurious storage space. When decorating or shopping on a budget, I always look to eBay to see if I can score any vintage gems, dupes for pieces that are out of my budget, and pre-owned luxury goods. I’m usually able to find tons of furniture and accent pieces to get started. Since you guys are always asking about my closet, I wanted to share some easy tricks I follow to create a luxe closet on a budget.
1. Add seating
I’ve always liked the idea of making my closet feel more like a high-end boutique, so I added a few chairs and an ottoman. I love being able to sit in my closet and invite friends in to pick an outfit with me. This armless leather chair from eBay is the perfect dupe for the ones pictured above. Since closet spaces are usually tight, I recommend sticking to neutral tones, such as white, cream, and gray to open it up and make it feel bright.
2. Have fun with textures
Furry textures are perfect for adding a cozy and glam touch. This rug is such an affordable buy and would make a great addition to any wardrobe. I also love these throw pillow covers that you can lay over your chairs or on a bench.
3. Get creative with storage
The quickest way to declutter your wardrobe is to add storage furniture. I love using a combination of closed and open storage pieces. I use drawer dressers because I can display pieces on top while keeping my jeans, sweaters, and lingerie out of sight. You can also get creative with each individual drawer and use them to hold miscellaneous accessories, such as jewelry and sunglasses.
I also installed floating wall shelves to hold some of my favorite designer boxes and most used designer handbags. But you can also use this to hold books, candles, frames, or hats – the options are really endless.
4. Add coffee table books
People don’t often think to add coffee table books to their wardrobe, but it really lends a personal touch and speaks to your style. Some of my biggest fashion inspirations are Kate Moss and Helmut Newton. Fashion books can really be expensive, so eBay is one of my secret places to get them at a steep discount!
5. Invest in a few designer pieces
If there’s one thing I truly love eBay for, it’s their selection of authenticated designer handbags. From vintage Louis Vuitton to Chanel, these pieces are beautiful to look at inside your wardrobe. Everything in your wardrobe can be high-street and affordable, but a single designer piece can immediately elevate it and make it seem far more luxe.
6. Play with gold accents
One of my quick tricks to perking up a room is to add gold hardware. Whether it’s putting your gold jewelry on display, changing out your basic light for a gold chandelier, or adding gold handle pulls to your dresser, nothing adds character like a metallic accent.
7. Be intentional with your purchases
If you want a luxe closet, you have to give it the time and attention it requires. That means organizing your clothes regularly and being intentional with new purchases so that they’re in sync with everything else in you own. A wardrobe overhaul sounds expensive and stressful but not with the help of eBay. It’s so easy to find premium denim, a statement heel, or a versatile top. Remember, the more time and effort you put into streamlining your wardrobe, the more likely you are to maintain it!
