How To Style Neutrals

It’s no surprise that I love wearing neutrals. Not only does it take minimal effort to throw together, but mixing shades of cream, ivory and beige instantly elevate any outfit and feel inherently luxe when paired together. These hues are all staples in any wardrobe, making it so easy to pull together your outfit when you’re on the go. Plus, it’s fun to mix and match based on your mood for the day.

Typically these tones are saved for the winter months, but this trend is timeless and so versatile that it can be worn year round. To inspire your new season rotation, I’ve put together 3 tips on how to style the perfect neutral outfit.

1. Make sure to mix textures
The key to wearing warm-tones is adding in different textures to break up the monotony. My typical trick is adding the texture in on the first layer of your outfit – whether it’s ribbed, sheer, embellished or printed. For today’s look, I went for a ribbed tan dress and paired with it a lighter tan wool coat. The ribbing underneath the solid help gives it a much needed texture to spice it up.

2. Pair your look with complementary tones
Make sure to stick to soft tones like cream, beige and blush, and mix in darker ones like camel and khaki. As long as they stay in the same palette, they will always match and make you look effortlessly chic.

3. Pick out one piece and build around it
When going for a neutral outfit, build your look based off of one key piece. Warm tones can get boring, so I typically start with a sophisticated accessory – like a bag, jewelry or shoes. For this one in particular, I chose to style my look around my creme Bottega clutch and shoes.
