My Favorite Must-Have Shoes for Fall

Everyone always thinks of big, warm coats and cozy knitwear when we start transitioning into fall and the colder months, but shoes are a wardrobe essential and fall trend I like to keep an eye on (in addition to bags). This season, it’s all about boots and platforms. From classic and chic thigh-high boots to rugged lace-up boots and edgy chain detailing, there’s a trend for each style. Here are the must-have shoes I’m adding to my wardrobe this fall.

Thigh-high boots

I don’t think thigh-high boots will ever go out of style, and it’s no surprise this trend is returning this fall. These are definitely a wardrobe staple worth investing in. They’re easy to pair and a chic way to effortlessly elevate your outfit this season, whether they’re form-fitting or slouchy. My favorite way to style thigh-high boots is to pair them with a dress or skirt and an oversized coat.

Lace-up boots

Lace-up boots are another timeless style and trend that always finds its way back into fall. I love this combat-inspired look that adds an edge to any outfit. It looks just as good with high-waisted denim and a t-shirt as it does with a dress and a belted blazer.

Chains

Chunky chains were a popular jewelry trend this summer and it has migrated its way into fall. It’s one of the big Fall 2020 bag trends, so I love that it’s also carrying over to shoes. This detail gives any style an edgy lift, and it’s an effortless way to accessorize your outfit. On the runway, chains were seen on all types of shoe silhouettes – from flats and sandals to heels and boots (my personal favorite). It helps adds a modern and contemporary touch to any fall outfit.

Heavy ankle boots

This is one of the more comfortable shoe trends this season, and I’m loving it. It’s the perfect blend of cool and practical and very easy to style. I like to pair them with jeans and knitwear for a cozy and casual look.

Chunky soles

Chunky soles were a big summer trend this year, and they’re here to stay. I love the nostalgic 90s-style platform sandals, heels, boots, loafers, and sneakers and the way they offset more feminine pieces. On the runway this year, this trend was seen in bold colors as well as my favorite classic neutrals in leather, patent, and rubber fabrics. To transition your summer platforms into fall, try pairing them with cozy knit tights.
